A Royal Glimpse into Sustainable Land Management

This week the rural team had the privilege of visiting the Duchy of Cornwall Estate in Herefordshire as part of our Autumn Rural Day. We were generously hosted by the Future Farming Senior Advisor and Graduate Rural Estate Surveyor, who provided valuable insight into the Duchy’s progressive and sustainable approach to rural estate management.

The day started with a tour of the Harewood Park Estate, acquired by the Duchy in the early 2000’s. We explored the beautifully restored St Denis’ Chapel, the historic walled garden, converted stables and barns – all excellent examples of sensitive and sustainable development.

We then visited Shenmore Lodge, a project personally overseen by His Majesty The King, where we enjoyed an insightful discussion on rural design and stewardship.

The day concluded with a talk from the Head Forester, who shared the Duchy’s forward-thinking strategy on forestry and environmental management.

A huge thank you to the Duchy team for an inspiring and informative day. It was a fantastic opportunity to engage with the people and principles shaping the future of rural land management.
