Winning tree first fake

The first time using a fake tree proved to be a winner for Helen when she entered Balfours Christmas tree competition. The prize, six bottles of Tanners Champagne.

“It was because of my partner’s allergies, that we had a fake tree this year, we chose one as realistic as possible and nobody could really tell,” Helen admits. She says her tree is always decorated with the same glass baubles, purchased over many years from John Lewis. “Each year I try to buy a couple more decorations making an annual visit to the store with my daughter but didn’t manage a trip this year.

I saw the competition on Instagram and on a postcard and just thought go for it, I couldn’t believe when I won. We were thrilled with the bubbles too,” she added.

Helen who has lived in her cottage, near Hookagate for nearly 30 years says once New Year is over, she packs away her tree decorations, safe for another year. With the twelfth night this Friday, if you haven’t already, it is time to pack your decorations away too.
