South Shropshire hidden gem
Upper House is one of Shropshire’s hidden gems. A 4 bedroom, grade II Listed home whose half-timber and stone, late 1600s built, good looks are supported by the charm of an extensive cottage garden. Found within Hope Bagot, Ludlow is 6 miles, with local shops and school at the nearby Clee Hill.
The approach is off a country lane to a gravel driveway where there is a double garage and parking. Step inside the portico, past the staircase, to the sitting room, which boasts a web of timber beams, plus wood burner within a softly lit small inglenook within stone backdrop and feature mantle surround.
To one side of the sitting room is an equally well balanced and spacious second reception room, again with dual aspect glazing. To the other side is the kitchen diner with playful ceiling levels leading the eye to the Aga. There is ample natural light with windows to three aspects, plus good storage and worktop. A second staircase leads to an office/ mezzanine of good proportions.
There are 2 bedrooms on the first floor, one of which is en-suite, together with a single bedroom offering a study option, and a family bathroom. Ascend again to find two additional bedrooms accessed from a good-sized landing.
Outside there is a dairy, now a utility with wc and washroom. The whole is laced with flowering and herbaceous borders, plus lawns. Hedging and mature trees provide windows to the picturesque countryside beyond.
Agent, Balfours partner, Scott Kemsley, comments: “Upper House just keeps giving: A separate building is a converted studio with a mezzanine office space above, with potential for holiday let or other purposes, subject to planning permission. Not forgetting the cedar summer house, from where all can be conveyed as the sun goes down,” Scott adds.
Balfours are marketing Upper House with a guide price of £725,000. For more information call 01584 707100
