Shrewsbury wins best place to live accolade

Shrewsbury continues to be voted one of the best places in the UK to live and as a destination. The Telegraph has said it, The Times has said it, now a leading lifestyle website is endorsing the county town too.

It is one of the 260 towns “Muddy Stilettos” is acclaiming to be the best place to live. While 260 featured might make you think “so what,” Alistair Hilton, Balfours partner and head of property sales, says think again: “The majority of towns the website has included are either down south and expensive, or already highly sought after and hugely expensive, like the Cotswolds.

“If you drill down and start comparing property prices, Shrewsbury becomes exceptionally good value. Of course, it has all that is proclaimed by Muddy Stilettos including:  period architecture, a great food scene, superb independent shops, culture and riverside walks. Beyond the county town is surrounded by stunning countryside and charming market towns.”

The other thing that is great about Shrewsbury and indeed Shropshire is that it is central to the UK. Reaching family or friends anywhere in the UK is accessible. “We have Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Bristol all within sensible commutes for business or pleasure and each with international airports. Even London is under three hours by train.

For education too, Shrewsbury is top of the class, Alistair agrees with the reviews. From outstanding OFSTED nurseries to independent girls Shrewsbury High School and award-winning co-educational Shrewsbury Schools.

“It’s town and education inspiring Charles Darwin and Sir Michael Palin among its many successes as one of the best places to live and thrive with a healthy lifestyle,” Alistair adds.
