Shrewsbury prettiest town for shopping

Shrewsbury continues to gain accolades as one of the UK’s honeypots of delight. On this occasion it is The Times which dedicates Shrewsbury as one of the prettiest towns for Christmas shopping.

The major attractions are its architecture and its independent shops, according to Times readers and endorsed by its travel journalists. Head of residential sales at Balfours, Alistair Hilton, acknowledges: “We really are very lucky to have such a pretty town, I suspect for those who live here it is almost a given, but it really shouldn’t be.”

He adds: “The architecture, half-timbered Tudor buildings and the pretty Square with the old Market Hall are a fabulous backdrop, apparently we are considered to have more than our fair share of independent shops, and Wyle Cop is claimed to be the longest uninterrupted row of independent businesses in the UK.”

According to Alistair all this achieves a glowing atmosphere for Christmas shopping and the final sparkle will be added this Wednesday with the official switch on of the Christmas lights, marking the first of seven late night shopping opportunities, every Wednesday until Christmas.

He reflects: “There is a real happiness about the town, it’s a total wellbeing tonic compared to shopping online, giving a wholesome caring feel when purchasing gifts. Of course, when shopping is done there is a fabulous range of cafes and restaurants to complete a great shopping experience.”
