Shropshire mirrors national market

House buyer demand in Shropshire is a mirror image of the national market, according to a leading Shrewsbury estate agent.

Tim Main head of sales at Balfours says, their experience duplicates findings released by the Rural Institute of Chartered Surveyors this week, that the post Brexit jitters are passing.

“Autumn is proving to be extremely positive; without doubt buyers are in the market to buy. However the caveat must be house stocks, with many potential buyers frustrated by the lack of new stock coming on the market.”

Speaking at Balfours residential office in Shrewsbury’s Square, Mr Main added: “Interest has been across the board. What has been particularly encouraging is the number of buyers from outside the county. Shropshire is without doubt perceived as not only value for money, but also offering the opportunity of an excellent work lifestyle balance.

Two of our Shrewsbury properties to exchange this month are a five bedroom home in Porthill, marketed with a guide price of £875,000 and at Abbey Foregate, a four bedroom home marketed with a guide price of £550,000. Both sold to buyers coming into the county and making that choice to settle in Shropshire.”

He continues: “October to-date has proved an extremely busy month with properties in all sectors, from town houses and village cottages to barn conversions and period homes, finding buyers. The message to prospective vendors is that despite Brexit life carries on, a fact that our sales figures and those released by RICS endorses.”
