Heritage retreat for every mood

The perfect blend of heritage and contemporary design are on offer within walking distance, just north, of Shrewsbury town centre.

Portland Villa is a fine example of an Edwardian town house, located in the popular area of Mountfields, near Frankwell. It provides four bedrooms over two floors, with the master room being en-suite plus there is a luxurious family bathroom.

On the ground floor there are two reception rooms, each accessed from the entrance hall. The living room is a well-balanced room with bay window to the front. The dining room opens through to a charming garden style room, linking to the kitchen and through French doors to the garden. The kitchen itself is fitted with integrated fridges, dishwasher and SMEG oven.

Balfours town sales agent, Alistair Hilton, enthuses: “The current owners have been successful in combining heritage with contemporary. The house has many period architectural features, yet space and natural light are both maximised, while creating a variety of moods.”

The walled garden area is designed for maximum relaxation and effect with minimal gardening so that full use can be made of a built in outdoor day bed and hidden storage. A downstairs cloak, single garage and on street parking area are also part of the package. Portland Villa is marketed by Balfours with a guide price of £399,000. Shropshire Horticultural Society President feels the Flower Power

Shropshire Horticultural Society President, Robin Morris is pictured admiring the latest tribute to the town’s forthcoming Flower Show – three huge hand crafted sunflowers.

The sunflowers were commissioned by three long-established Shrewsbury businesses – Balfours Property Professionals, Lanyon Bowdler Solicitors and Morris & Company as a fitting display in honour of the Show. The structure with its cut out flower faces allows for posing for some suitably floral selfies and photos to get into the spirit of Shrewsbury’s famous summer event.

The sunflowers were created by family-run JDS Steelworks from Church Stretton who specialise in fabrication and bespoke items and who stepped up to the plate with the floral brief.

Robin Morris, chairman of Morris & Company commented: “We all felt this was a great way to begin our Flower Show celebrations setting the tone for the exquisite real blooms on display in a few days’ time inside the Show’s floral marquees. In my role as this year’s President of the Shropshire Horticultural Society, I am very much looking forward to welcoming devotees to the Show as well as many new visitors to marvel at the wonderful exhibits on display and the wealth of other activities and attractions which make our Show unique.”

In the meantime, the public are encouraged to come along and have some fun with the iron sunflowers located in The Square and treat themselves to free packs of sunflower seeds available from Balfours Estate Agents just behind the display.

Shrewsbury Museum and its popular Stop Café have welcomed the arrival of the distinctive sunflowers outside their front doors and will be ensuring safe night-time storage of the unique items.

Morris & Company is exhibiting at the Flower Show as are JDS Steelworks and Lanyon Bowdler are sponsors of the Grand Prix Show jumping on Saturday 13th.
