Shropshire’s Villages and Hamlets – A Magnet for City Dwellers

Shropshire’s home owners are set to benefit from a massive surge in buyers seeking to buy a home in a rural location.

Housing Stocks Could Be Tested!

Balfours estate agents say the number of enquiries for homes in villages, hamlets and the county’s rural market towns more than doubled during June and July -  a mirror image of Rightmove’s analysis. Ludlow sales manager, Scott Kemsley, says: “Eighty per cent of enquiries are coming from outside the area – a figure which would normally run at circa forty per cent. Those who were considering a move have been egged on by the stamp duty holiday.”

He adds that as a rural area in the heart of England, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire are all well placed to tick boxes for commutes to both the capital and the major cities of Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool. People perceive these counties to be a truly rural and unspoilt, without the price tags of the Cotswolds and Home Counties.

“The region ticks the boxes for both logistics and lifestyle – homeworking is affordable, but when they do need to go the city, whichever one it is not too far away. Add to this our wonderfully diverse countryside with opportunities for cycling, walking, riding, plus vibrant market towns from Ludlow’s food festivals and culture, Shrewsbury’s flower show to Bishop’s Castle’s ale trail; what is there not to like?”

“We are getting to that point where we would welcome anyone considering a sale to get in touch, because according to Rightmove research more people are planning to move out and that could test our housing stocks,” Scott adds.
