Gone to earth – Fox Barn

Fox Barn is a home worthy of horn blowing. Situated six miles north of Shrewsbury, this grade II listed barn conversion is immaculate in its presentation. Who could blame any fox for going to ground here?

Set in 2.5 acres of grounds, including landscaped gardens and paddock, Fox Barn, Fitz, offers three or four bedroom accommodation. However it is the reception rooms which add the real exhilaration to this house hunt.

“A” frame beams both lift and anchor the character in the entrance hall, kitchen diner and sitting room. It is the ceiling, open to the eaves which give each of these spacious rooms a truly airy feel. The kitchen island and storage is well planned sitting comfortably, within pleasing social and practical range of the dining table – this is the sort of kitchen diner which enticed us away from formal dining.

Across the entrance hall the sitting room is equally attractive. The stainless steel flue from the woodburner snakes its way up into the eaves as a feature in its own right, and linking 21st century technology with oak beams which not so long ago sheltered cows chewing their cud and new born lambs.

Bedroom accommodation comprises of a ground floor master suite, together with a second bedroom or study. On the first floor there are another two bedrooms sharing the family bathroom. There is a double garage.

Beyond the grounds are views of rural Shropshire at its best, including the village Church. The amenities of Fitz and Baschurch are close to hand, yet this property is 15 minutes’ drive from the vibrant county town of Shrewsbury.

Home vendors urged to optimise autumn harvest

Shropshire home owners are reassured that despite the pressure from Brexit on housebuilders and the housing market, this summer has revealed “business as usual,” according to one of the county’s leading estate agents.

Tim Main, head of sales at Balfours estate agency, says the market has been significantly stronger this year to-date, than in the last few years. He continues: “Our sales data shows the activity pattern for 2016 has totally mirrored the last few years, with Brexit having very little influence on sales.”

Mr Main adds: “Throughout the summer and especially during August we have had a steady stream of applicants registering with us because they are keen to buy in the area; furthermore they have the funding to do so.

“Significantly it is the fresh supply of houses coming to the open market that is not keeping up with demand.  Certainly, the current level of activity from prospective buyers should lead to a positive experience for vendors looking to bring their house to the market this autumn,” he adds.

Recent activity for Balfours includes the exchange of contracts on Chilton Cottage, a three bedroom cottage with an annex, situated near Atcham and with River frontage. It was marketed with a guide price of £495,000.A five bedroom house - Breidden View - in North West Shropshire also exchanged in late August for a similar guide price.
