Balfours Christmas Lunch 2011
Sitting on the same table as Andrew is always good fun and this was no exception. I can promise you that every wine glass on that table was kept full and by the end of the meal, a track had appeared in the carpet to mark the journey of the wine waiter between Andrew’s chair and the kitchen.
Michael made a speech, which was so good that Jonathan managed to sleep through most of it and then through all of the home made entertainment that followed. There is always a good variety about Michael’s speeches, but this year he managed to arrange some musical accompaniment in the form of a mobile phone (not his), which went off somewhere in the middle.
Talking of home made entertainment, Maggie, Sandra and Fiona started things off with Piano Pete providing the musical accompaniment. They were quite splendid with their Egyption style song and dance routine with modern computer-speak lyrics. Trevor gave us an excellent poem about The Lion and Albert and Fiona, Balfours very own nightingale, completed matters with Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend.
Sandwiched in between those class acts, yours truly filled in a few minutes worth of nonsense in the form of a one-man play. This involved those fictional sleuths, Holmes and Watson who were called to Market House to investigate the case of the forestry chappie who seemed to go missing for long spells during the summer months. The conclusion was - Gone Fishing!
