Everyone knows when Tiger Habershon is on the golf course because the cry of ‘fore' rings out around the fairways.  It should be Hacker Habershon really but anyone can dream of greatness.  I do enjoy a round of golf and, when I manage to find the time, I can be found hacking and duffing with the best of them at Ludlow Golf Club.

There is a hierarchy attached to woodland management.  At the top of the pile is the client, who issues instructions and pays the bills, and at the bottom of the pile is the poor old contractor who does all the work and moans about it.  Somewhere in the middle is the forestry manager who is responsible for everything and takes the blame when things go wrong.

So there we all were at Picklescott Village Hall, on a day out for Balfours' finest, as organised by Richard JP and Richard B.  And then Jonathan jumped into his car and headed off with Jane and Rory G.  I thought they were doing a bunk but apparently no mobile phone signal was being received at Picklescott and they were going off to find one.  I say ‘apparently' as there is a very good pub in Picklescott and I was even more suspicious when we all heard Jonathan's mobile phone ring later in the morning!

Mrs H and I set off for the Shropshire Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust evening hosted by Kevan and Joy Fox and family at Upper Shadymoor.  We arrived in good time for a cast on the trout pools before dinner.  Now Mrs H is a bit of a dab hand at fishing, as you may know, but I thought that lake fishing might be a challenge too far for her.  Again I was wrong.  With the help of two excellent ghillies (Ivor and Lloyd Fox) she managed to land two rainbow trout, two and three and a half pounds respectively, in short order.
